The Ministry of Municipalities and Housing has emphasized the importance of workers in food and public-health activities obtaining health certificates, given their important role in promoting and protecting public health, raising the level of compliance with health and municipal requirements, and contributing to consumer protection and to reducing the health risks associated with food and service activities.
The Ministry explained that the health certificate is one of the basic requirements for workers in food establishments or in public health-related roles. It covers several activities and occupations, including restaurants, cafés, bakeries, and food retail outlets, in addition to barbershops, women’s beauty salons, laundries, and relaxation and body-care centers.
It stated that the health certificate is issued electronically through the Balady platform and application, by submitting an application by the worker or the establishment’s representative, followed by completing the procedures to verify the occupation, the shop license, and the license activity in accordance with the approved procedures.
It added that obtaining the health certificate requires the worker to undergo a medical examination at the accredited health entities to confirm their good health and that they are free of communicable diseases before practicing the work, in addition to passing the health-education test in the cities where the program is applied, in accordance with the approved list of occupations, after which the health certificate is issued and printed electronically.
The Ministry indicated that health-education programs aim to raise workers’ level of health awareness and to strengthen self-monitoring and sound health practices in work environments related to food and public health, contributing to enhancing prevention and reducing practices that may affect the health and safety of beneficiaries.
The Ministry stated that the health certificate is valid for one year from its date of issuance and may be renewed up to 60 days before its expiry, calling on workers and establishment owners to make use of the digital services available through the Balady platform and application to complete the procedures for issuing and renewing health certificates with ease and convenience, thereby enhancing compliance with the approved health and municipal requirements.
